1. Purpose of this document
This page explains, in advance, what you will be asked to consent to at the studio. It is information only. A signed consent form is completed in person before every treatment, after your consultation and after any questions you have are answered.
2. Nature of the treatment
Permanent makeup is a cosmetic tattoo. Pigment is implanted into the upper layers of the skin using a sterile, single-use needle. It softens and fades over time but it is not temporary, and it cannot simply be washed off. Brow lamination and powder henna are non-invasive and temporary. Laser removal breaks down existing pigment gradually over multiple sessions.
3. Consultation and suitability
Suitability, health history and any contraindications are assessed individually at your consultation and discussed with you before anything is agreed. You will be asked to disclose all relevant medical conditions, medication, allergies, previous cosmetic tattooing and any recent skin treatments. If circumstances change between consultation and appointment, please tell us before treatment begins.
Treatments are for clients aged 18 and over. A patch test may be required and, where required, must be completed before treatment.
4. What you consent to
- The treatment discussed and agreed at consultation, using the technique, colour and shape designed with you and approved by you before work starts.
- The use of topical anaesthetic where appropriate.
- The understanding that healed results vary, that fading occurs, and that more than one session may be needed.
- Photographs being taken as part of your treatment record. Publication on social media is entirely separate and only ever happens with your specific, additional consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
- Your treatment record and consent form being retained for 7 years for insurance and record keeping purposes, as described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Risks you should be aware of
- Redness, swelling, tenderness and darkening of the pigment for the first days after treatment.
- Flaking and patchiness during healing, which is normal and should not be picked.
- Possible allergic reaction to pigment or aftercare products, which is rare.
- Risk of infection if aftercare instructions are not followed.
- Colour that heals lighter, warmer or cooler than expected, or that is uneven and needs adjustment at the touch-up.
- Possible cold sore reactivation after lip treatments in clients prone to them.
- With laser removal: temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, blistering, and the possibility that pigment is not fully removed.
6. Aftercare essentials
- Follow the personal aftercare instructions and use the products given to you.
- Keep the area clean and avoid touching it with unwashed hands.
- Do not pick, scratch or peel the flaking skin.
- Avoid swimming, saunas, steam rooms, heavy sweating and intense exercise while healing.
- Avoid direct sun and sunbeds while healing, and use SPF on the healed area afterwards to protect the colour.
- Avoid makeup, exfoliants, retinol and acids on the treated area while healing.
- Contact us straight away if you notice spreading redness, heat, significant swelling, pus or fever, and seek medical advice if you feel unwell.
7. Withdrawing consent
You may withdraw consent at any point before treatment begins, and you may stop the treatment at any time. Because pigment work cannot be reversed, consent cannot be withdrawn retrospectively for work already carried out. Consent to publish photographs can be withdrawn at any time by emailing contact@11studio.co.uk.
